Studying or working abroad may sound daunting, but it’s an exciting opportunity to learn a new culture, meet new people, and develop vital skills to enhance your employability.

So you can find out more about going abroad, we're hosting a virtual Go Abroad fair on Wednesday 3rd November. You'll have the chance to hear about the different opportunities available to you, the support we can offer you, and how to go about studying, volunteering or working abroad.

Travelling to a new country is always exciting, but studying or working abroad gives you the opportunity to see even more of the world. During your time abroad, you could take trips to your new neighbouring countries, to broaden your experience even further!

Many employers value international experience, as you’ll have developed many new skills including language skills, independence, knowledge of a new culture, and a willingness to learn.

University is a great place to meet new people, and by going abroad, you’ll have the chance to meet people from lots of different cultures, giving you the opportunity to learn about new countries! You’ll also be able to broaden your network on a global scale!

 

Feel supported

When studying, volunteering or working abroad, we will support you with pre-departure briefings and regular check-ins. Why not join our virtual Go Abroad fair to find out how we can also offer help with funding, language learning, choosing your destination, and your wellbeing. There may be external funding available, too. For example, this year the Turing Scheme is available for non-EU destinations and provides extra funding for students from less advantaged backgrounds. Refresh the languages you learned in school by going abroad. You might even be surprised at how much you remember!

If you’re not confident in your language speaking, there’s no need to worry – our Language Resource Centre can help support you with dedicated language classes and online resources.

 

Gain independence

Going abroad is an exciting challenge and a great opportunity to escape your comfort zones. You’ll have the opportunity to pick up new skills you may not have had the chance to whilst studying at home, including navigating a new city, communicating in a different language, and budgeting with an unfamiliar currency. These are skills which will help you in the future, as well as help to enhance your CV!

By studying, volunteering or working abroad, you’ll be immersed in a new culture. You’ll have the opportunity to try new activities, new foods, and experience a different way of life!
