Our students continue to make a splash, achieving incredible results in competition, breaking records, making a positive impact, and scoring 10s across the board.

Here are some recent highlights from Swimming and Dance.

🏊 Swimming: records, personal bests and community impact

Newcastle University Swim Team has enjoyed a particularly strong run of results this season.

October 2025 saw the team storm the pool, winning every race against York St. John's in their first BUSL Phase 1 fixture.

This was followed by an excellent showing at the Short Course at BUCS Championships, where 12 swimmers achieved personal best times.

A standout performance came from Saumitra Gore, who broke three BUCS records in the S15 category (50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, and 100m freestyle). He also secured a silver medal in the 100m freestyle.

These results mark the first-ever BUCS swimming records achieved by Newcastle University.

Beyond smashing records and winning medals, the club has continued to show real depth in its commitment to social impact, too. The team hosted the Anthony Nolan student society at a recent training session, with 31 swimmers signing up as potential bone marrow donors.

Many members were already registered, following an earlier collaboration with the charity, demonstrating the club's sustained engagement with life-saving causes.

Newcastle University Dance Club have had an exceptionally successful semester 1, both in their scale and ambition.

With record-breaking numbers, NUDC are setting the tempo for student sport.

NUDC now has its highest-ever membership, with around 500 active students now involved, making it the largest Sports Club at the University.

Alongside this phenomenal growth, the club has raised £3,125.41 so far for its chosen charity, Building Self-Belief CIO, with further fundraising events planned throughout the year.

Looking ahead, the club are busy prepping for a busy competition season.

This includes hosting their largest home competition to date and supporting 17 competition teams travelling throughout the season.

Preparations are also well underway for the annual dance show, Memories in Motion

Taking place at Northern Stage on 13 & 14 March, Memories in Motion promises big routines, bigger energy, and plenty of wow moments!

What a great way to celebrate the hard work, dedication and talent of NUDC throughout the year.

The dancers will bring to life a collection of competition-winning routines alongside nostalgic, throwback-inspired pieces, all choreographed by their fabulous teaching team.

The show will cover a range of styles - including ballet, tap, jazz, street and more - and will showcase the versatility, skill and commitment of dancers from across the club.

A limited number of tickets are still available for all three shows from the Northern Stage website.

From fast lanes to flawless routines, these achievements highlight the strength, dedication, and talent across Newcastle Sport.

Well done to all students involved!
