Come to the Quayside Market with me

Macy, our Student Content Creator, takes us along to the Quayside Market, one of the best weekend activities in Newcastle.

Open everyday Sunday, the outdoor street market spans the length of the Tyne in between the Millennium Bridge and the Tyne Bridge, offering beautiful views of the river as well as vibrant market stalls. Dating back to 1736, the Quayside Market has a long history in Newcastle, with generations of people browsing and enjoying the produce of local sellers.

Whether you’re a foodie, into local art, or a vintage shopper, the market's mix of traditional and modern culture means that there’s something for everyone. It's a lovely way to fill in a spring morning and grab a bite of lunch and a hot drink from the amazing (and seemingly never ending!) choice of food stalls.

Due to its popularity, the Quayside Market gets very busy, so make sure to get there in the morning if you want to have a browse without feeling rushed. The vintage clothing stalls are a great hidden gem, with sellers offering reams of designer jackets and denim jeans - just come prepared to rummage!

However, the best part of the market has to be the food stalls. You can look forward to trying something new every time you visit and it’s fantastic to see so many local businesses thriving. On my last visit, I tried Redhead’s Mac ‘n’ Cheese for the first time and it was phenomenal, I would highly recommend it!

After making your way through the stalls, cross over the Swing Bridge to get a view of the Tyne Bridge over the river. This is definitely one of the best views in Newcastle, and it's a great photo opportunity too!

There are plenty of coffee shops and stalls along the way, as well as in neighbouring Ouseburn, if you fancy a sit down after a busy browse!
