Meet Angelina

Untitled design (4)-Dec-19-2024-01-36-58-3225-PMHi! I’m Angelina, a second-year Marketing and Management student from Sabah, Malaysia. Sabah is famous for its lush greenery and wildlife, like the adorable orangutans and the gigantic rafflesia! Growing up, I was a competitive golfer, but since starting university, I’ve loved trying out new sports like pickleball and korfball—they’re both such a blast!

I’m all about exploring new places and diving into different cultures! My recent trip to Taiwan was amazing—especially the street food. Fried chicken, baos, mochi… it was a dream for any foodie! I love connecting with new experiences, whether it’s through history or trying local dishes. When I’m not travelling, I share fun vlogs with tips on staying balanced and healthy, with a dose of adventure thrown in!

Newcastle has been the perfect city for me—it’s got that fun city vibe without being too overwhelming, and everyone is super friendly! Plus, it’s so easy to take day trips to places like Durham, York, or even Edinburgh.

As a self-confessed foodie, I’ve explored all of Newcastle’s best eats! Hop & Hen is my go-to for cheap wings (Wednesdays and Fridays are a must!), Zuju is perfect for delicious Chinese food, and when the weather’s cold, nothing beats Thai House Café’s tom yum for comfort!

Meet Esme

Hi! I’m Esme, a final year Media, Communications and Culture student from Norwich, who has returned from a placement year in London.

When I’m not in the library, I enjoy spending time with my friends, watching films, exploring new places around Newcastle and cooking. I also like running – especially on a sunny day along the Quayside.

My favourite thing about being a Newcastle University student is getting to meet so many people!

I have made the best friends in my three years here. I am also really grateful to have been able to extend my course by a year to do a placement year (I wasn’t quite ready to graduate yet!).

My favourite place in Newcastle is Ouseburn, it has so many cute places to eat, drink and shop.

Meet Lily

Hey I’m Lily, I’m a third year English Literature student. I’m from a small village on the outskirts of Leeds; I love the fact Newcastle is far enough away from home, but close enough I can hop on a train and visit home for the weekend.

Outside of my degree I love fashion, spending time with my friends and travelling. I also love writing articles about Newcastle and am the features editor for the Newcastle Tab.

The past two years I’ve been a member of Newcastle Dance club and would recommend anyone and everyone to join at least one society- I've made some of my closest friends through them.

One of my favourite things to do in Newcastle is go for brunch or coffee and chat for hours with my friends. Here are some of my favourite places:

1901- There’s a reason it is always busy, not only does it serve the loveliest brunch, but it also has 10/10 sweet treats. Your sign to stick out the queue, it’s so worth it!

The Dispensary-The ideal spot for those staying in Wellington or Verde to go with their parents as the last supper after being moved in.

Pink Lane Bakery- Its more than just a cute name, Pink Lane Bakery has the most delicious treats, from pastries to toasties. The irresistible cinnamon buns are my favourite!

Meet Rachel

Hi, I’m Rachel and I’m from Northern Ireland! I’m currently in my third year of Marketing here at Newcastle University.

I’m already dreading graduation because I’ve had such a great time at university so far - all the friends I’ve made in classes, the beautiful campus, and the encouragement I’ve received from staff throughout my degree have made this experience so valuable to me.

One of my favourite things about Newcastle University is all of the societies and activities you can get involved in.

I’ve been involved in Pilates and Business societies which offer great opportunities to make friends. I love to travel and spend a lot of my time off university on trips with friends - this definitely sparked my interest in documenting my experiences, something I can’t wait to apply to life at Newcastle University!

I have loved living in Newcastle so far. Something I do as much as I can is visit the beach in Tynemouth- it’s twenty minutes from Newcastle on the metro and such a lovely area. I would definitely recommend going for a swim and walking around the surrounding town to any students who haven’t been yet.

Meet Brigita Diva

Hi, I’m Brigita Diva from Indonesia, a country known for its stunning Batik. I’m currently pursuing a master’s degree in Sustainability Management programme.

Outside my studies, I enjoy activities that give me a thrill, like skydiving and rollercoasters which makes me feel alive!

What I love most about being a Newcastle University student is meeting people from all over the world and exchanging cultural stories. As for Newcastle itself, I love jogging in the city centre in the mornings, because it feels so lively! But when I need a quieter spot, Leazes Park is my favourite place, especially with the adorable ducks around.

Meet Estrella

Untitled design (9)-2

Hi! My name is Estrella, and I’m from Peru. I’m a Stage 1 Journalism, Media, and Culture student at Newcastle University. I love drawing, dancing, watching TV, and talking. One of my all-time favourite shows is Modern Family. I’ve been drawing since I was 12, starting with a traditional manga style, but now I’m more into semi-realistic digital art.

As an international student, one of the things I really enjoy about Newcastle University is how friendly and welcoming everyone is. I’ve joined the Dance Society, and it’s been a fun way to meet people from different courses. I also like that you can try out a society with a taster session before deciding to join—it’s a good way to see what it’s like.

Something I’d recommend to anyone is to check out the university map to find places to study. Just when I think I’ve seen them all, I find a new one and wish I’d known about it earlier! The study spaces are all different, which is great. Some are private and quiet, some have comfy couches instead of desks, and my favourite ones have height adjustable tables—they really help my back after a long day.
