Meet Sinjita Mohanan Nair, a MSc Human Computer Interaction, 2024 Graduate. Here's everything you need to know about her NCL Internship experience.

Interview preparation

Make sure you do some research on the company and who you will be talking to before attending the interview. This is a great way to impress the interviewer as it shows that you're genuinely interested in the job and also means you're better placed to ask any relevant questions.

Internship at Emotional Logic

During my 3-month internship at Emotional Logic, I worked as a Consumer Insights and Research Intern. This involved conducting in-depth research to understand consumer behaviours and preferences, analysing data to generate actionable insights, and assisting in the development of strategies to address client challenges. I gained hands-on experience in designing surveys, moderating focus groups, and interpreting qualitative and quantitative data.

I wanted to do an internship to gain practical experience and apply what I learned in my studies to real-world situations. This internship aligned perfectly with my career goals and gave me valuable industry exposure. It was an enriching experience that solidified my interest in consumer behaviour and user experience.

As an international student, this internship was a valuable opportunity to understand and adapt to the UK work culture. It helped me develop essential skills in user and market research, such as analysing consumer behaviour and presenting insights effectively. I also learned to use new tools and technologies that I had never encountered before, which expanded my technical expertise and made me more confident in applying research methods in a UK business.

“As an international student, this internship gave me invaluable insights into the UK work culture, helped me build new skills, and opened doors to a full-time role in the business— an experience I’ll always be grateful for!”

This experience has definitely prepared me for a graduate job role. It improved my ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and understand what is expected of me in a professional setting. It also gave me real-world exposure to industry practices and built my confidence in handling responsibilities independently. Most importantly, the internship led to me being offered a full-time position with the company, which is a testament to how it equipped me to meet workplace expectations!

Careers Service

I received great support from Newcastle University Careers Service to prepare thoroughly for my interview, which boosted my confidence and ensured I was well-prepared to showcase my skills. The NCL Internships team were very supportive throughout my internship and checked on my progress regularly to ask if I needed any assistance.
