As we go into the second term, check out some of these events to welcome in the new year! 

NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week Restaurant stock image

In the city centre and need something to eat? From Monday 15 - Saturday 21 January, Newcastle Restaurant week is returning! Make your way down to participating restaurants to grab restaurant week deals at £15, £20 and £25. There are so many local restaurants involved, so whether you're fancying sushi or dirty waffles, this has got you covered!

Jesmond Food Market 

Check out this buzzing street food market, happening the first and third of each month (Saturday 20 January and Saturday 3 February). Explore the range of local foods on display on the Armstrong bridge with offerings from: Pink Lane Bakery, Little Bao, Dosa Kitchen and plenty more! It is found over Jesmond Dene, a picturesque valley following the Ouseburn River, and is a great space to explore and visit for a green escape!

The Theatre Royal: Pinocchio Theatre stock image

Still in the Panto spirit? Then the Theatre Royal has got you covered, with at least one showing of Pinocchio up until Sunday 14 January. Being produced by one of the best panto companies in the UK, prepare for side-splitting slapstick, as the mischievous puppet embarks on a hilarious journey to become a real boy in Pinocchio!

Newcastle Eagles Basketball Game, Vertu Motors Arena 

Feeling up to watching European Basketball? Watch Newcastle Eagles as they take on Royal Liege Basket from Belgium on Tuesday 23 January at 7:30PM. With Royal Liege at the top of the group, this is set to be a close game between the two sides.

Once again, Vintage Vera are making a return with their thrift shop in the Students' Union! Join them on Tuesday 23 January to shop amongst their massive range of vintage clothing from the US. Clothing is priced by weight rather than per item, with no minimum spend!

Flower Power Vegan Festival, Wylam Brewery 

Join Wylam Brewery at Exhibition Park, to celebrate this Veganuary! There will be lots to do, including the very popular “food battle” where over 10 of the best vegan restaurants go head to head to find out who cooks up the best vegan food in Newcastle. There will be over 10 vegan traders, and it’s set to be a great evening out. It will be running from Friday 26 January to Saturday 27 January.

Great North Nights: Burns Night Ceilidh, Great North Museum

Great North Museum

Want something that is more on-campus? Well at the Great North Museum they’re throwing a party in honour of the Scottish poet, Robert Burns’ birth. Expect there to be plenty of dancing and poetry, with a supper that includes Haggis, “neeps and tatties”- some of Scotland’s favourite foods! There are also vegetarian options available. 

This is a ticketed event, and you can buy tickets on the Great North Museum website. 

And if that isn’t to your fancy, there are other exciting places such as the Northern Stage, Farrell Centre and Hatton Gallery ready to be explored here on campus!
