Power into March as we gear up for one of the largest sporting events of the year - VARSITY! 

International Women’s Day, 8 March

Celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) this year with Newcastle University Business School! 

On 6 March, the Business School will be holding an event to help celebrate the diversity of our community all around the world. The event will be based upon this year’s theme of IWD: inclusion, with a panel of entrepreneurs sharing their insight on the topics, opportunities to speak with guest speakers and plenty of time to network with all those in attendance!

Thrifty Chef 

Are you trying to reduce your food waste? Then join Thrifty Chef every Monday from 3pm!

Thrifty Chef

Thrifty Chef is a new project aimed at reducing food waste and teaching cooking skills through cooking box meals. The project, ran by students, utilises surplus ingredients from Grainger Market to create the boxes to then sell outside of the Students' Union building!

Boxes cost £3 and are a great way to save money and reduce food waste!

Dog and Scone Café visit

Do you love dogs? Well, the Students' Union has got you covered. 

Come along to the Dog and Scone Café on 8 March with the Students' Union this term, to meet some of Newcastle’s cutest dogs in Pickle, Noodles, Sugar and others, while drinking a coffee and maybe some snacks. So, if you’re missing your pet at home, or just love animals… this is perfect for you! 

This is a ticketed event, so make sure to book before you go! Tickets are £5.

Do you want to get your adrenaline going? Newcastle University Basketball needs YOU on 2 March as we prepare to take on our fiercest rivals “Bradford Dragons” in NBL division 1. It’s set to be a packed arena as the two teams battle it out in a high energy, high scoring drama where you, the crowd, can make the ultimate difference in who takes home the W at the Sports Centre! 

The ticket will include special offers, refreshments, half-time entertainment and more!

Battle of the Burger, Wylam Brewery 

Wylam Brewery is back on 29 and 30 March! Hands round hamburger

In this instalment of its widely enjoyed “food wars” series of events, we are judging burgers! The two-day event is set to be the biggest BATTLE OF THE BURGER they have held yet, with more choice, more sides, and more vendors, it’s perfect for all the foodies out there! 

It is a free entry event where the best burgers in the region compete to collect the most tokens to determine who REALLY has the best burgers in the region.

Varsity, Friday 22nd March 

Varsity 2024

Varsity is BACK for another year. On Friday 22 March, get behind our Newcastle University sports teams to help defend our title and go for a three-peat against Northumbria! 

For those who don’t know what Varsity is, it is an annual event where fierce rivals Northumbria and Newcastle Universities’ BUCS teams battle it out to find the overall winner. The event includes all the BUCS sports teams from Basketball to Squash, and the University that wins the most games is crowned the winner! 

Most fixtures will be played on Friday 22nd March and are free to attend!
