Get Spring started as we near deadline season with our Top May Events! 

Global Food Market - Wednesday 1 May

Celebrate the Festival of Culture with us here on campus as we bring you the Global Food Market here on campus outside the arches on May 1st! The Market will offer foods from around the world, celebrating the different cultures around the world. Give your taste buds a treat from Latin America with Good Times Tacos; or get a taste of vibrant Asian-style street food from Copper Rice Box; experience south India with some of the best Dosa’s and tiffin in the North East from Dosa Kitchen; and finish it off with Afro-Caribbean bread and sweet treats from Teettham Bakery! 

So why not come along and treat yourself to all the best foods from around the world Newcastle has on offer right here on campus! 

The market will take place on Wednesday 1 May from 11am-2pm! 

Slice Wars, Wylam Brewery - Friday 3 and Saturday 4 May

Need your foodie fix? Then Wylam Brewery has got you covered once again! This time, featuring Slice Wars- the battle of the city’s best pizza places. If you are not already familiar with Wylam Brewery’s food wars series of events, they are a chance for local North East vendors to compete against each other to bring home the prize of being the best in the region and is a must do event at least once! The event is free to attend (but sadly the food isn’t) and will be taking place on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 May

Vintage & Makers Flea Market - Sunday 19 May 

Step into the Boiler shop on Sunday 19 May to discover the Vintage and Makers Flea Market at Boiler Shop from 10am to 4pm to immerse yourself into a buzzing community of collectors, artisans, merchants, and baristas. Whether you’re treating your wardrobe a spring-refresh with that new perfect retro ‘fit, just wanting something to go browse and something to eat, this is the perfect place. 

The market is ticketed, with tickets ranging from £2.50 to £3, whether you bought on the door or in advance. 

Star Wars 25th Anniversary Screening, NUSU - Friday 3 until Monday 6 May

Join NUSU at the historic Tyneside Cinema this May the 4th, to a galaxy far, far away to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Star Wars! Revisit the very start of the whole saga as the Jedi face a young Skywalker with potential to bring balance to the force. 

This is a ticketed event, and tickets are limited! So, book now!

Newcastle Food Festival - Saturday 4 and Monday 6 May

As May blooms, so does the vibrant flavours at the Newcastle Food Festival! This culinary experience promises a taste of local and international cuisine, masterfully crafted by chefs and passionate food artisans. Set up right next to campus, in the beautiful Exhibition Park, the festival is a paradise for food enthusiasts and worth a visit! 

But there’s more! The festival is more than just trying to satisfy taste buds but is a celebration for all the senses as there will be live entertainment and music! So, if you’re not fussed about food, there is still something for you! 

The festival is a ticketed event is taking place from Saturday 4 May until Monday 6 May (You can get discounted access from NUSU!).

Street Food Express: Chinese Bao Making - Friday 3 May

Are you wanting to spice up your usual cooking routine, or just want to learn more about cooking? Then join the Blackfriars Cookery School (at Blackfriars restaurant) in a relaxing afternoon, where you’ll learn how to make delicious home-made steamed buns, with plenty of different mouth-watering savoury or sweet fillings. 

You will need a ticket for this event, and it will be taking place on Friday 3 May

The Late Shows - Friday 17 and Saturday 18 May

Looking for something different to spice up your evening? Then The Late Shows could be just for you! If you aren’t familiar, The Late Shows take is a late-night culture crawl, aiming to encourage people to visit different venues that they may have otherwise never visited. Taking place on Friday 17 - Saturday 18 May, the (free) event includes over SIXTY venues across the city centre, Ouseburn, and Gateshead, including the Great North Museum, Farrell Centre, and the Hatton Gallery right here on our campus! 

So, whether you're looking to discover more of the city has to offer, or you just found something that piqued your interest, the Late Shows is for you!
