The days are brighter, the vibes are better, and Newcastle is buzzing with events to help you unwind, explore, and make the most of the spring sunshine.

Whether you're a foodie, theatre lover, vintage queen, or thrill-seeker—there’s something this month for everyone.

Slice Wars - 2 & 3 May

📍 Boiler Shop

Get ready for the cheesiest, sauciest food fight of the year! Slice Wars is bringing together some of the UK’s top pizza vendors to battle it out for pizza supremacy. Expect sizzling slices, outrageous toppings, wood-fired magic, and possibly the best garlic dip of your life.

You’ll get to taste, vote, and crown your pizza champ. Whether you're into classic Margheritas or bold experimental toppings (pineapple, anyone?), this is one for every pizza purist and adventurous foodie.

Catch Market: 90s & Y2K Special – 3 May

📍 The Engine Room, Northumbria SU

Blast from the past? Yes please! The UK’s most iconic vintage clothing market is rolling into Newcastle with the best of 90s and Y2K fashion. We're talking double denim, tiny sunglasses, funky prints, velour tracksuits, and more.

Whether you're reworking your wardrobe or just vibing with the nostalgia, this is the place to score statement pieces no one else has.

The Late Shows – 16 & 17 May

📍 Across Newcastle & Gateshead

One of Newcastle’s most unique cultural weekends is back! The Late Shows open up museums, galleries, studios, and creative spaces after dark—and they’re all free to explore. From interactive art to candlelit tours and live performances, the city transforms into a glowing playground of discovery.

Grab your mates and wander through quirky venues, try hands-on workshops, and see the city in a totally new (and neon) light.

Theatre Royal Highlights – 6–27 May

📍 Theatre Royal, Grey Street

Ready for a night of drama, glam, or suspense? Theatre Royal is bringing two crowd-pleasers this month:

Kinky Boots (6–18 May): Fierce heels, fab tunes, and a heartfelt story about acceptance and being unapologetically yourself. A musical that’ll lift your spirits and make you want to dance.

Picture You Dead (20–27 May): For thriller lovers—this stage adaptation of Peter James’ crime novel will have you on the edge of your seat. Think drama, mystery, and murder.

This is a perfect way to upgrade your usual night out.

Give it a Go: Surfing – 14 May

📍 Tynemouth Beach

Swap your sneakers for a wetsuit and catch some waves with NUSU’s Give it a Go surfing trip. No experience needed—just a love for the sea and a sense of adventure.

With expert instructors, all equipment provided, and good vibes all around, this is your chance to try surfing in one of the UK’s most scenic beach towns.

Ride (or fall with style) and treat yourself to fish and chips after. Total win.
