As we move into autumn and look forward to Halloween, we round-up some of the events taking place in the city and beyond for you to enjoy.  Whether you’re a foodie, a sports fan or into scary movies, there’s something for everyone this month.

Rugby League World Cup 

The Rugby League World Cup begins this month with the opening fixture – England vs Samoa – taking place at St James’ Park on Saturday 15 October.  This city also plays host to more fixtures at Kingston Park on 16, 22 and 29 October.

Halloween Movie Night 

If scary movies are your thing, head over the Tyne Bank Brewery on Thursday 27 October for two Halloween classics: 

  • GET OUT: 18:30 - 20:15 

Chris, an African American man, decides to visit his Caucasian girlfriend's parents during a weekend getaway. Although they seem normal at first, he is not prepared to experience the horrors ahead. 

  • THE EVIL DEAD: 20:30 - 22:15 

The Evil Dead is a 1981 American supernatural horror film written and directed by Sam Raimi, produced by Robert Tapert, and executive produced by Raimi, Tapert, and Bruce Campbell, who also starred alongside Ellen Sandweiss, Richard DeManicor, Betsy Baker, and Theresa Tilly. 

Tickets cost £4.90 (including booking fee) and can be purchased in advance.  Popcorn is included and fancy dress is encouraged!

The Great Market Caper

If you’re looking for great food, great bars, great music and great entertainment all in a world-class venue - you’ll find all that and more at The Great Market Caper in Newcastle’s Grainger Market. 

The next Great Market Caper will kick off at 6.30pm on Saturday 29 October in Newcastle’s Grainger Market. In keeping with quirky Caper style, the organisers have promised not only a great night out, but something just a little bit different: Halloween, but not as you know it! 

Admission costs £10.75 (including booking fee) – you can buy tickets in advance and a limited number of tickets are available on the door.  Make sure you bring contactless payment methods with you for any purchases you make as it is a cashless event.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show 

Oktoberfest has returned to the city this month bringing a taste of Bavaria to Central Park every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.   

 As part of its programme, Oktoberfest are running a number of themed events including a spookily special, interactive and immersive screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Sunday 30 October. Expect amazing actors and to be transported to the set of the film itself with plenty of sing-a-longs! LET’S DO THE TIME WARP AGAIN!

Performances at Northern Stage 

If you enjoy the theatre and dance, why not pay a visit to Northern Stage, our on-campus theatre.  Performances this month include Quiet Rebels (12-13 October), Noughts and Crosses (18-22 October) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (from 29 October).  See the Northern Stage website for full listings and booking details.

Events across Newcastle University 

Don’t forget about the Give it a Go events offered by the Students’ Union.  This month they’re running trips to the Scottish Highlands and Gibside and Cragside estates, offering you the chance to get back to nature and enjoy the autumn colours.   

For something a bit different, why not book a Tarot reading session or take a tour of the Victoria Tunnel.  See the NUSU website for the full programme of events and booking information. 

If you're looking for a graduate job, internship or placement starting in 2023 why not head to the Find Your Future event on Monday 17 & Tuesday 18 October.  Hosted across three campus venues, 120 local and national employers will be waiting to meet you hoping to fill their internship and placement vacancies. Don't forget to register your place
